Early Life

Sandra Bullock was born in Arlington, Virginia, on July 26, 1964, the daughter of John W. Bullock, a voice coach and singer, and Helga Mathilde Meyer, an opera singer and voice teacher. She has a younger sister, Gesine Bullock-Prado, who is also an actress and producer. Bullock’s father was an American soldier in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, and later worked as a counsellor at the Veterans Administration.

Bullock has said that her mother is German, while her father is of English, Irish, Scottish, and German descent. She was raised in Nuremberg, Germany, where she lived with her mother and attended an American high school. In 1982, she graduated from Washington-Lee High School in Arlington, Virginia.

After high school, Bullock moved to New York City to pursue a career in acting. She worked as a waitress and did various odd jobs before landing her first role on the soap opera Soapdish (1991). She later appeared in films such as Demolition Man (1993), Speed (1994), The Net (1995), Hope Floats (1998), Practical Magic (1998), Forces of Nature (1999), Miss Congeniality (2000), Two Weeks Notice (2002), Crash (2004), The Proposal (2009), The Heat (2013), Gravity (2013), and Ocean’s 8 (2018).

In addition to her acting career, Bullock is also a producer. She has produced several films, including Miss Congeniality 2: Armed and Fabulous (2005), All About Steve (2009), and The Heat (2013).
